Category: Europe
Europe – that peninsula of Asia we British seem to have a love/hate relationship with.
Being so close to home means Europe is the easiest of the continents to explore; indeed it’s quicker and cheaper for me to get to France or Belgium than parts of Scotland. This means of course it’s a much more popular place to go backpacking than other parts of the world, but also it’s much easier to take time to explore the lesser-visited spots.
On my backpacking adventures around Europe I’ve taken rather a lot of trains and overnight coaches, and visited almost every country. I’ve seen several thousand years of history, and the conflicts that have resulted from it. I’ve found art in unusual places, and watched some very low-end football matches. That’s not to mention visiting a country that does not exist, and another that was very nearly wiped out. All this I’ve found while backpacking around Europe; plus of course lots of beer.
