Southern Africa – home of elephant safaris, one of the most iconic waterfalls in the world, and some of the oldest evidence of mankind. On the darker side, one also sees here the legacy of what happens when colonialism is left to fester.
While the Southern Africa region itself is popular with backpackers & tourists, my aim was to travel slightly differently. This included taking local buses, visiting lesser known spots, and staying in guesthouses/hostels rather than hotels.
My adventures took me from Zambia, through Zimbabwe (via a day trip into Botswana), and into South Africa. I passed through Lesotho for a few days before hitting the coast at Durban.
