Podcast #024: Travel at different ages

Two people in a student's front room, playing reversi / othello. One of them (me), a man, is sat on a chair on the right of shot. The other, a woman, is sat on the floor to the left of shot. The room is a mess. Obviously.

Welcome to Episode 24 of my “Travel Tales From Beyond The Brochure” podcast.

This week’s podcast episode, brought to you from a slightly damp Sheffield, is all about whether travel changes depending on how old you are – if the way you travel at the age of 20 is the same as the way you travel at, say, 40, in terms of travel style, accommodation, food, destinations, etc.

I don’t talk a lot about travelling at ages older than I am, but you get the drift. Most of it is comparing how my travel has(n’t) changed over time. I’ll probably do a follow-up episode about this at some point when my feelings change again.

Topics discussed in this episode then include:

  • How to pronounce the placename ‘Albany’
  • Weather, lockdown, and beer update
  • Another marginally unsuccessful Sunday morning run
  • I don’t want a job in banking!
  • TIL things about South African history that really have me worried about humanity
  • The stereotypes of travel at different ages
  • Places are popular for a reason
  • Alexei’s contribution: How his travels have changed over time
  • Changing ages lead to changing tastes
  • How things you like may not even exist until you get older
  • Amanda’s first contribution: How travel has changed, especially since she became a parent
  • Risk, and how you deal with it as you age
  • Amanda’s second contribution: How the concept of travel itself has changed since her first trip
  • Has my travel style changed since my first trip?
  • Where I’ve slept, through the years
  • How I’ve eaten through the years
  • Have my destinations changed through the years?
  • Nostalgia

You can listen via the feed above, or via Spotify, or on your podcast app of choice 🙂 Let me know if it isn’t, by the way, and I’ll see what I can do.
