Category: Travelling Light
One of the entries on my old tagline was ‘travelling light’. I figured this was an important part of why and how I travel.
But what does ‘travelling light’ mean? For me, with regard to how I travel, it means literally travelling with as little luggage as possible. I try to take carry-on only, even for three months’ backpacking around Asia. But it has other symbolic meanings too. It means I tend to travel solo, not worrying about group dynamics or what my friends are up to. I aim to travel locally and sustainably, or as sustainably as an overfilled minibus 20 years beyond its use-by date can be.
So, on these pages I go into detail about travelling: What I carry and don’t carry in my backpack, where I stay, how I travel between places, & what I eat. I give my thoughts on buses & overnight trains, staying in hostels as a Gen-Xer, and what deep-fried caterpillar tastes like.
