Oceania; it’s more than just Australia (and New Zealand).
The “continent” known as Oceania is a mixed bag of countries and styles. Obviously Australia is the biggest draw and it’s a place that’s quite easy to go backpacking around, but take a couple of short plane hops and you’re in a whole different world.
That said, it’s a region I’ve yet to scratch more than just the surface of – a combination of distance and cost has limited my experiences, especially if you’re on a budget. However, apart from the main two countries, I’ve also spent nearly a month backpacking around Vanuatu.
In this section then, read tales of my adventures hiking up volcanoes and drinking weird muddy root juice (spoiler: the locals also think it’s foul). ‘Fouls’ were also evident when I watched my first ‘footie’ match.
